Leigh Jepson memorial trial - ride report
10/11/2011 19:30
A Tale of 2 Chris's
A strong entry of 60 riders turned out today to support the Sutton Falcons annual remembrance of the former trials rider, Leigh Jepson.
A cold, misty morning greeted riders and observers to the Derbyshire hills, where the course plotting team had set 8 sections out in the stream, and 2 on the hillside, section 1 being a graded hill, a rare beast in a trial nowdays!
The hard route was a test of concentration with local experts Boam, Pearson and Timperley along with A class contender Corey Dubek all wanting to get thier hands on the silverware. The mindmaster turned out to be Chris Pearson, who held his nerve, when the night owl Timperley and young Dubek both had daft dabs spoiling thier score sheets, while Mick Boam had a disastrous 5 on section 10, removing himself instantly from the podium.
The clubman route turned out to be a clash of the veteran titans, top 7 places going to 0/40's legends, split apart by Leigh's brother Paul on the trusty TY yam, a sight to be beheld on full chat in 4th gear on the muddy graded hill. Local veteran Chris Milner showed them all the way home for the win , with just 1 dab on section 3 spoiling a clean sheet. Paul Jepson was hot on his heels for the Jepson Trophy, in second place with 2 dabs. The old boss, Dave Thorpe claiming a close third with the usual Thorpe steady ride, suffering an unfortunate 3 on section 3, claimed the last award of the route.
The easy route had a good entry, with a good mix of novices and some very senior 0/40's !!, Steven Sulley taking his 1st Falcons trophy with a couple of 2's and 3's, just pipping Sheffield and Hallamshire boss Andy Atkinson to the win, with the evergreen Kurt Hobson having a fine day out on the Triumph cub, losing out on the 0/40 award by 1 mark
Hard route: Winner Chris Pearson Sherco 0
Clubman: Winner Chris Milner Gasgas 1
1st class Paul Jepson TY Yam 2
2nd class David Thorpe gasgas 4
Easy: Winner Steven Sulley Beta 10
0/40 Andy Atkinson Gasgas 13
